In the Fall of 2017, I will be a Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Wabash College. Previously I was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN, which has closed (for now) due to lack of financial resources. Teaching duties at Saint Joseph’s included math courses of all levels as well courses in the College’s unique Core Program, including The Roots of Western Civilization. Computability theory, a branch of mathematical logic, is the subject of my research. My PhD from Notre Dame was completed under the direction of Peter Cholak. Before Saint Joseph’s, I was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Butler University and Pacific University.
In my free time I volunteer in my community and for my church. I also enjoy reading literature, philosophy, and theology, and playing basketball and ultimate frisbee.
I have started a blog on educational and mathematical topics — click on the link “blog” on the left to view.
You may email me at jcole at saint joe . edu, without the spaces and with the proper “and” sign, of course.
